Our Purpose

Families ACT is a territory peak, not-for-profit, organisation which advocates and works for vulnerable and marginalised children, young people and families in the ACT and surrounding region to improve their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. We take a broad and inclusive view of what constitutes a family, and strive to improve the wellbeing of all families in the ACT and surrounding region.

Our Priorities

Advocacy and Awareness
Be the strong & proactive voice to government on local and regional issues impacting vulnerable and disadvantaged children and families. Our current advocacy focus areas are housing and homelessness, the Middle Years and child protection reform.

Research and Policy
Facilitate research to inform policy that improves outcomes for children and families. Over the past four years, Families ACT has led work to lift the profile of the middle years (8 to 12 year-olds) running two forums with speakers expert in this field which resulted in FACT’s Missing Middle 2018 Policy paper.

Sector Development
Strengthen the capacity of organisations providing services to vulnerable and marginalised children and families through strength-based training methodologies.

Our Values

We believe that equity is essential to fight poverty and achieve thriving families and communities in the ACT and surrounding region.
