about us

Our Purpose

Families ACT is a territory peak, not-for-profit, organisation which aims to represent the interests of children, young people and families and the continuum of services which support them, in the ACT and surrounding region.

We take a broad view of what constitutes a family and strive to improve the wellbeing of all families in the ACT and surrounding region.

Our Objectives

  • Promote a policy environment which addresses the needs and interests of children, young people and families in the ACT and surrounding region, with a focus on those who are marginalised or vulnerable.
  • Work with government to develop strategic policy which impacts positively on children, young people and families.
  • Advocate for member organisations providing social services to children, young people and families.
  • Build the capacity of the sectors providing services to children, young people and families.
  • Collaborate with member and other interest groups to work on common policy issues affecting children, young people and families.
  • Encourage and promote best practice and collaborative service delivery among all family support services within the sector.

Our Values

  • Respect for difference - We accept people as they are and value diversity. This applies equally to our member organisations whose uniqueness adds value to Families ACT.
  •  Collaboration – We will share our knowledge and experience with others. We will seek opportunities to work with a range of partners recognising that collaboration promotes innovation and fosters improved service quality.
  •  Social Justice – We believe equity is an essential element in creating a healthy community. We will advocate for equality of opportunity, rights and social, cultural and economic well-being.
  •  Leadership - We will provide strategic leadership through advocacy, policy development, and support for our sector.
  •  Professionalism – We will use our skill and experience to pursue quality in all that we do. Evidence will inform our practice and we will continually question whether we can find better ways to achieve our goals.
